KNIFE PLEATED SKIRT

KNIFE PLEATED SKIRT

We should study parts of pleats in detail in order to know how they are fixed. Thus, it will be easy to deal with this kind of applications.
Check the following pictures so that we can analyze them together.

This picture illustrates the form of pleats upon closure. It also shows the pleats opening gradually. Looking into details, we find that each pleat consists of 3 facets as shown in the following picture:

In order to implement a knife-pleated skirt, we should know the following measurements:
1) Waistline.
2) Length of skirt.
3) Width of pleat.

Steps of implementation:
1) Let’s have an example: Skirt waistline (80 cm), length (55 cm), width of pleat (2 cm).
2) Follow the following steps to know the length of the skirt’s pattern. The knife pleated skirt pattern is a rectangular one, and its length is the pattern’s length with pleats open. Its width is the required length of the skirt

a) Know number of pleats = (waistline ÷ width of each pleat)
80÷ 2 = 40 pleats
b) Know length of each pleat (single pleat width x 3).
2 x 3 = 6 cm
c) Pattern’s length = number of pleats x length of single pleat.
40 x 6 = 240 cm

By this, we get the pattern’s length taking into consideration the importance of making the skirt’s lower fold before making the pleats and adding the length of stitches.??????

Question: Does the pleats width affect the pattern’s length or not?
