Cloche Skirt

Cloche Skirt through a Quadrant

In order to implement a cloche skirt, we must know the skirt’s waistline and length.

Steps for implementation:
1) Draw two crossed lines as indicated in the figure. The crossing point is the circle’s center point.

2) To be able to do the circle for the skirt’s waistline we must know the radius of the circle ( r ) using the circle circumference law:
Circle Circumference = 2x r x pi
Whereas:
2 = constant
r = circle’s radius
Pi (π) (equal to 3.14)
.

3) For example, skirt’s waistline (80 cm), in order to be able to make a waistline circle in a quadrant, we need to know the radius of the circle (as per the abovementioned law) as follows:
N.B.: since the skirt’s waistline represents a quadrant, therefore it is possible to know the circle circumference.
Circle Circumference = 2 x r x pi
80 x 4 = 2 x r x 3.14
r= 80 x 4 ÷ 2 x 3.14
r= 320 ÷ 6.28 = 50.95 cm
r= 50.95 cm

4) Knowing the radius, now we are able to make waistline circle represented in a quadrant between points A and B, as indicated on the figure. =>

5) Now, upon measuring the rotation of the curved waistline (A,B) we find that it is 80 cm, i.e. skirt’s waistline.

6) From point (A), we mark the skirt’s length and we put point (C) on the extension of line (center point, A) as shown in the figure so that the skirt’s length is the distance
between points (A & C).

7) From point (C) we draw a parallel line to the curved line connecting between (A, B) whereas (C, D) is the end of the skirt’s length.

8) Add a space of (1,1 cm) for the sewing stitches.

9) The waistband is a rectangle, the length of which is equal to waistline + 10 cm, and its width = 10 cm or according to the model.
